Social Justice Aotearoa will advocate to change section 5(1)(c) of the End-of-Life Choice Act 2019 “Meaning of person who is eligible for assisted dying or eligible person”. We believe that it is wrong that a person who has been diagnosed with a terminal illness cannot choose to end their life, pain and suffering, simply because the illness may not end their life within 6 months.
SJA believes that if a person has been diagnosed with a terminal illness it should be their choice if they choose to end their life with dignity and should not be decided by a piece of legislation that will make them suffer.
